Wooden Satellites, Darkroom, Mr. Doctor Professor @ the Rail - 11/20/09

It was moderate rock night at the Brass Rail this Friday, and of course I was there with my camera. I used two off camera flashes triggered via a 580ex. I think this is my preferred way of shooting until they mount the monitors up on the wall or whatever the plan is. Well, the one caveat to this is that I don't like to use off camera flash when I'm drinking a lot as I am always afraid that I will forget my flashes when the night is over.

Anyway, for this set I figured I'd try something new and do an embedded slideshow instead of posting a few select images. You can always go to the full gallery as usual. Let me know what you think.

A fun and weird night at the Rail...weird, mainly because I was more or less sober the entire night, fun because Dr. Manhattan is rediculous, and because Timmy joined the B-Sharps onstage for the first time in quite awhile.

I've been doing a few more promos recently, and this set was particularly fun. These were shot in the woods in more or less complete darkness. We had intended to shoot these with some evening light, but didn't manage to get going until it was already dark. I could barely see through the viewfinder and had to use the flash AF assist beam to focus...but we managed.

I guess I just sort of have a thing for bands from the pacific northwest, but I really enjoyed the Whore Moans.

I went all out and used 2 430exIIs off camera for this set...kind of killed the ambient light in the process, but I still like the results.

Longsleeves came through town as part of their midwest tour and played a show with Sixty Years War compatriots Wooden Satellites, who debuted a new more rock-bar friendly sound and a new 5 piece line up.
